Patron's Dinner 2014

3rd April 2014

Earlier this year, over 220 partner schools, corporate partners and invited guests gathered at Ramside Hall in Durham to celebrate our region’s schools at the SCHOOLS NorthEast Patron’s Dinner.

Special guests, Mr Burton and Mr Steer from Educating Yorkshire’s Thornhill Community Academy entertained us all with anecdotes from the series and their views on the legacy of the programme for staff, students and the teaching profession.

Emma Beatty, Director of Technology at The Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) at Durham University, main sponsors of the event, welcomed guests with a speech outlining the challenges facing educators and some of the ways North East schools could address them.

Emma shared her hopes that the North East would become nationally and internationally recognised for excellence in education stating: “It would be a great day if we were to read in the UK national press, not of 50 teachers from Shanghai being brought to London to help us understand how to improve our education system, but to hear that 50 teachers from the North East were being called to London to show how this region has managed to improve local children’s education through its SCHOOLS NorthEast network, dedication to school improvement; better CPD - capitalising on the fantastic support from our local, world-class universities and emerging opportunities like the North East Challenge.”

Big thanks to CEM and table sponsors: Aura, Avec, Bond Dickinson, EYPS, Gentoo Group, Muckle, Northern Education, Newcastle University and Ward Hadaway for all their support and to everyone who attended.
